Publish and Prosper!

January 23rd, 2012

mass lottery

by Peg Silloway

We’ve all heard the old admonition to academics:  Publish or Perish! If you wanted to move up in college and university circles, you had to publish articles and books, or risk being seen as a bit of a loser.

Businesses are discovering a new and much more positive version of that old phrase: Publish and Prosper! In these days of instant messaging, video emails, and downloadable e-books, company leaders are rediscovering the value of good old ink on paper as a marketing and brand-building tool. There is nothing quite as effective as a book – well, perhaps other than an appearance on “Good Morning America” or CNN – in creating the image of you as an expert. When a person’s name and photo are on the cover of a well-written, well published, and good-looking book, that can be worth thousands of dollars of paid advertising. (more…)

Business Matters: Stress Will Make You Stupid – How to Stay Smart

January 16th, 2012

ny lottery

Presented by: TJ Helm, Galileo Professional Services, Inc.

It’s common knowledge anymore that stress is a killer. What makes it dangerous is that under stress we do stupid things that we wouldn’t ordinarily do. Stress also strangles our creativity that would otherwise help us. Even an abundance of “good” stress isn’t necessarily a good thing.

Having the ability to reduce your stress makes you happier and your life more fulfilling.  Also, knowing how to spot stress in yourself and others can help you navigate emotions more effectively.

Annual Business Showcase & Expo

January 13th, 2012

pa lottery

2012 is the Year of Change for the Beaverton Chamber and our Business Showcase and Expo is getting a total make-over!

This year’s Expo will highlight the Top 5 Job Creators in Beaverton. We have a great, central location for this year’s event AND we are making booth space affordable for all our members–$250 for exhibitor tables! Delivering value for our members and our guests is paramount to having a successful event.

Thanks to Lanphere Enterprises, the showcase will be held at the Lanphere Marine building on Millikan Way. This is a fabulous and exciting venue that we will work to bring to life and provide ample room for hundreds of attendees & exhibitors!

If you are interested in helping to build this opportunity please let us know! We want to form an action team to work with staff to get it off the ground. We’ll be setting the date when our committee gets together—tentatively pencil us in your calendars for the first week of April.

If you can’t afford the time to participate but want to let us know we are on the right track… please let us know! Email Michelle or call 503.350.2007. We want your ideas!
