After being told to eat less fat and consuming an abundance of low fat and nonfat products, Americans have gotten fatter. Do fat and cholesterol really make us fat and cause heart disease?
The Chamber is excited to welcome Michelle Mason as the new Director of Membership and Programs. Michelle came to the Chamber on September 4th, bringing with her a relevant professional background, and great demeanor that collectively, will prove to be yet another benefit for BACC members and the Beaverton community! Michelle has over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry—working as the Director of Food, Beverage and Events at Eastmoreland Golf Course, Global Account Executive with ConferenceDirect, an event consulting company, Director of Catering with Dean and DeLuca, and Marriott International where Michelle had the opportunity to experience multiple properties. In addition, Michelle was an active member of the Beaverton Chamber while working for Activate Cellular. Throughout career transitions, Michelle focused on acquiring the skills and honing the ability to identify the needs and expectations of a market, and finding the resources and information necessary to serve and meet those needs. This experience may be why Michelle said that discovering new benefits of membership, and continuously adapting to meet the needs of members in an ever changing business environment was what excited her most about the position at the Beaverton Chamber. Finding the information and resources Beaverton Chamber members need to continue developing, and meeting organizational goals is Michelle’s prerogative.
Michelle is particularly dedicated to cultivating the local business industry, having grown up in Beaverton. Michelle strives to help the city, and its citizens succeed. Michelle’s career path has taken her to Northern and Southern California as well as Seattle. Though the new Director of Membership and Programs was drawn back to Beaverton to explore the various opportunities the city has to offer. Michelle is continuously pleasantly surprised to discover amazing local businesses and services right in Beaverton that she was unaware of prior to her affiliation with the Chamber.
Many Chamber members have already had the pleasure of Michelle’s acquaintance, as she has been involved with the Beaverton Chamber since 2011. Though many may not know what makes Michelle tick, aside from serving the Beaverton community. Michelle loves “anything outdoors” she says, including golf, biking, hiking, and most recently, paddle boarding! Michelle is a most accomplished cycler, having completed six century rides, and one double century ride. For those unaware, a century ride is 100 miles! Cycling such a distance certainly takes determination and dedication, along with a dash of craziness which is likely why Michelle says if she were to compare herself to a character, it would be the Tasmanian devil! Michelle plans to bring this same crazy dedication to the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce members, and looks forward to contributing to a thriving business community in her hometown of Beaverton.
